MBAA Spring Soiree – Local Business Partners

Busch Gardens - MBA student, Chris Kinney and the rest of the Busch Gardens management team have generously donated a pair of day passes to be used at either Busch Gardens or Water Country in Williamsburg, VA.  

Cypress Point Country Club - Thanks to Ken Lake, General Manager of Cypress Point for donating 4 free 18-hole rounds of golf to this beautiful course in Virginia Beach.  

Spirit of Norfolk Cruises We have a pair of passes for both the dinner and lunch cruise aboard the Spirit of Norfolk.  Thanks to MBA alumnus Dave Whanger and Spirit Cruises for this wonderful donation

Knowledge Information Solutions - KIS is a locally based provider of IT products and services.  Thank you to John Giordano for donating a wireless presentation package that includes a wireless keyboard, gyroscopic air mouse and wireless pointer/clicker.

Springhill Suites @ ODU - One lucky soiree guest will walk away with one free night’s stay at the Springhill Suites across from campus in Norfolk.  

Monarch Sports Grille - Along with the night’s stay at the Springhill Suites, Tommy Bates, General Manager has donated a $25 gift card to the Monarch Sports Grille located inside the hotel.

Zoots Dry Cleaning - Zoots, who offer convenient home and office delivery for laundry and dry cleaning, has donated a $25 gift card.  Thank you to Julie Roberts from Zoots.  

Silver Blue Photography - Thank you John Barker of Silver Blue for donating a wonderful “Frozen ODU Lion Statue” print for one of our lucky guests to take home.

Borjo Coffeehouse - A great spot to meet friends and colleagues across from campus behing the Ted Constant Center, Borjo Coffeehouse has provided us with 2 $20 gift cards.  Thank you to Rob Loomis at Borjo.

ODU FootballThank you to Jackie Barrow, Director of Community Relations, for scoring us 2 tickets to next season’s ODU football game vs. Rhode Island.  Go Big Blue!!!

Planet PizzaThe one and only Space Grill in Virginia Beach (well, 2 if you count both locations)  is a fun place for families to dine and has kindly donated a $25 gift card to our event.  

Jungle GolfA veritable Virginia Beach Oceanfront institution, Jungle Golf has been entertaining families since 1970.  We have free golf certificates and BOGO certificates to give away.  Thank you to Rachel Cook. 

Mermaid Winery - Norfolk’s first winery and tasting room located in Ghent has kindly donated us a $15 gift certificate so someone can sample the fine product from Virginia’s first urban winery.

MBAA Call for new board members for 2013-2014 academic year

The current MBA Association Board of Directors is putting out a call to all current MBA students in good academic standing to fill board positions for the 2013-2014 academic year. New board members will be selected to serve a one year term starting this May. The Board positions are open to all current MBA students. Preference will be given to those students who will be enrolled through at least May, 2014, but those graduating in December, 2013 are also encouraged to apply.

The MBA Association is responsible for planning, organizing and marketing all association events. These include formal and informal networking events, volunteer and philanthropic activities, the MBAA Speaker Series, football tailgates in the fall, tours of local business, and the annual MBA dinner. Other responsibilities include managing all MBAA communications, conducting annual membership surveys and maintaining association status and relations with University and MBA program administrators.

There are currently six board positions, all of which will need to be filled for the upcoming year. Below is a brief description of each:

• President: Set agenda and direction for all MBAA action over the course of the year. Communicate with MBA program director about the activities of the MBAA. Oversight of all other Board member activities.

• Vice-President: Acts in the executive function in place of the President. In charce of special projects at the direction of the president.

• VP Finance: Has fiduciary responsibility over all MBA Association funds. Responsibility for the annual SGA budget process. Manages the day to day finances of the association.

• VP Marketing: Responsible for creating and executing marketing communications relating to MBA Association events and activities.

• VP Information Technology: Responsible for managing all association IT assets and activities including membership lists and online databases.

• VP Operations: Responsible for planning and executing event logistics. Communicates with outside vendors and school officials in planning events.

Aside from executing the tasks associated with his or her position, each board member is responsible for attending regularly scheduled board meetings, events and activities.

We are accepting applications from Monday February 11th through Friday February 22nd. To apply, please submit a current resume along with a short (less than 1 page) personal statement about why you would like to serve on the board, which position you are interested in, what skills you would bring to that position, and what if any ideas you may have for the direction of the MBAA.
